Sheryl M. Booker, Ed.S.

Sheryl Booker values educational achievement and is excited about the growth and advancement of the Spartanburg community. 

Throughout her career, she has worked as both a Professional & Executive Banker with Bank of America and as a school counselor at Dorman High School. Her previous work experiences prepared her for her most recent work with the Spartanburg Academic Movement (SAM), where she helps further SAM’s vision of creating a county-wide culture that values educational attainment. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Finance from Wofford College and a Master’s and Education Specialist Degree in Counselor Education from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.


A dynamic community advocate, currently serves on the board of directors of Mobile Meals. She has held positions on the board of directors for many impactful organizations, notably the Spartanburg County Foundation (Board Chair), the Greenville Rape Crisis Center, the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, the YWCA of Greenville, Glenn Springs Academy, and the First Tee of Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties. She also served on a community advisory board for the Nurse-Family Partnership through Spartanburg Regional.

Sheryl is a member of the United Way of the Piedmont’s Women’s Leadership Council and a former member of Women Giving for Spartanburg, where she served as an at-large member of the Executive Committee. She is a 2014 graduate of the Spartanburg Regional Fellows program.

She is married to Dr. Russell Booker, former Superintendent of Spartanburg School District Seven. They are the proud parents of two sons, Grant and Maxwell. As members of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Sheryl, along with her husband and two other couples, serves as a couple’s class facilitator. Sheryl enjoys spending time with her family, playing golf, and traveling. The Bookers reside on the Eastside of Spartanburg County.

Sheryl and Russell founded One Acorn, an agency that helps organizations, individuals, and communities fulfill the potential within through enlightened, authentic, values-based leadership. One Acorn provides consultation for educational leaders, organizational management expertise, place-based strategies for school systems and communities, and customized speaking engagements. Just as an acorn contains a mighty oak, One Acorn believes that everyone holds powerful potential.
